Bright Sparks
Bright Sparks

7:30pm
We have been awarded a grant from Arts Council England for research and development exploring the themes of life-long friendships and the significance of adolescence on our identity.
The play, Bright Sparks, revolves around three older women, whose friendship goes back to their grammar school days. Nearly 50 years later, they find themselves questioning the validity of this friendship and why it has endured when that vessel no longer appears sea-worthy. The women also find themselves having to confront external and internal perceptions about themselves due to their advancing age. The story is one of secrets and loss and the ties that bind.
We meet these three “frenemies” in a very expensive restaurant as they get together for their annual meet-up. Sparks fly as these three life-long friends realise they don’t know each other as well as they thought.
This is a 25 minute script development sharing. Scene extracts, written by Catherine Leen, and directed by Margaret Connell, will be performed by Eithne Browne, Sarah Howes-Dixon and Robyn Moore.
The R&D has been co-produced by Catherine Leen and Vicki Caren.
